823. Still forgetting to write the new year down after forgetting about the same mistake last year…

Did you forget again that it’s a new year, no 2010, 2011, 2012, let’s just say that the last decade is clearly over, so yes it’s 2013, so remember to make sure to write down the new year!  The best part is when you have to pause and think about the year for a second and then write it down.  Then when you’re done for a split second you think you wrote it down wrong and there’s a cloud of self doubt.  In any case I hope everyone had a safe New Year!

Welcome lucky year 12 … I mean 13!

828. That person who stares at your plate and asks,”What’s that?!”

green sauce

Left over dinner?

Bringing a covered dish to a potluck?

That next item you dare not to try figure out that gurgles in the buffet line…

Everyone loves a great meal especially when you have a fresh hot meal of food, but I’m not sure I know of anyone who enjoys people chewing over their food asking rudely, “What’s Thaaaaaat?!!”  Then expect either “Oh,” or a 5 minute story banter of how their family member makes it better than what is being served.

So instead of asking, just eat it and enjoy your meal!

What’s that you ask…something AWFUL!

841. Taking down and packing away holiday decorations

Finally, the new year has settled in and the hype of the winter holidays are over.  We are finishing off the first week into the new year and the glimmer and excitement of Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chanukah, New year’s, & Three King’s Day are all over…so as most would tend to put away their holiday decor either the day after Christmas or New Year’s, I wait till after Jan. 6th.  In part because it’s the lasting touch of the new year’s light and Three King’s Day.  What holiday is that?! – take a look here We Wise Merry Men.

However, the distressing part comes when you have to take down the tree and pack away all the decor; grab the boxes and start taking it all down!  Finding extra spaces for the newly accumulated ornaments, the new linen, and also having to take down the lights off the roof, trees, and off the mantle.  It can be quite a laborious task so go ahead and take your time this weekend and get to packing!

Awful!

842. Making Up Snow Days at School

Well as we all enjoy a great day of snow, romping and playing around and not having to go back to school…the reality is you’ll have to make it up sometime later in the school year.  We found out today that they’re changing the Early School Release Day to a different day (a previously scheduled day off) and now making it a half day and the previous half day now a full day of school.  Phew!  Technical huh?  The high schoolers fairing off a bit more crazier seeing as they have almost a week full of half days and they are making it up almost the next few days at the end of this month.

So although it is exciting to see that the weatherman predicts several inches of snow, it isn’t exciting knowing you’ll have to make it up later on and at some time that’s the most inconvenient for you.  Oh well, not much we can do there about that since it’s more of a school board decision.

Awful!

848. Passing out at a holiday party

The party has just begun and after 3 or 4 drinks you’re feeling the effects and well you just literally pass out.  N one truly enjoys waking up the next day with a hangover and then hearing all of the awful stories from the night before and to look in the mirror and find crude comments on your face.  Hope you better not have to work the next day!  That’ll be surely a tragic scene.  So no matter how hard you’re partying, do it safely and responsibly, besides you’ll not want your pictures or videos to be posted online for all to gawk at for their pleasure.  Embarassing(ly) hilarious like this person:

849. Still hearing Christmas Carols after the holiday is over

You’d figure after 3 or so months filled with these joyous carols that they would turn it off right after the big holiday, but apparently the season has not died since I believe they will be chiming in the holiday spirit till December 31st.

Is that the last official day to play the holiday music?

Are people still in the cheery spirit or does it just irritate them any more?!  I haven’t seen any carolers this year so I guess it’s safe to say the spirit will slow down to make way for New year’s Eve frenzy!  How awful is that?

853. Wrapping Gifts

As the holiday approaches or any special occasion where gifts are bought in masses, just piling them up is great until you have a stash as tall as Mt Everest and then have to wrap those suckers up.  Some gifts are just so oddly shaped that you have to fold the wrapping paper in ways that no origami book could easily explain.  Then you have some of the gifts that after you’re done you realize that after you are done you were short a spot and left a clear spot open – improvise with a bow or ribbon!

Running out of paper and tape is just even more befuddling when you are in a groove and then as you are just assembly lining up the gifts then you just realize oops now I’m at the tube.   Cheap wrapping paper tears worse than a used dollar tree tissue pack and the fancy scotch tape that invisible when you set it down, well forget finding it once it’s laid.  So if you’re on your day to “wrap” hopefully you’ll have your supplies in well stock and some gift bags and tissue paper handy cause it’ll be a mission to be had.

When you’re done you’ll stand back and smile.. then realize how awful one wrapping job turned out because Muffins the cat wanted to rip open one after you were finished laying them out under the tree!
